Developing a Healthy Mind
Your mind and what you can achieve with it are astonishing if you only knew how to harness its full potential.
If you are in any doubt about what you are capable of or able to achieve, then take this moment to close your eyes just for 5 seconds…. done it?
Great.
Now open your eyes.
Now take a good look at everything you see that’s man made…. or put another way… made by man.
Every object or product you can see or the millions you can’t has been made by a man.
Whether it’s the desk you’re sat at, the pen you are writing with, the computer screen you’re now watching, the broad band which connects your whole house to the internet or even the satellite which sends the signal to your phone, … all made by man.
First every single item was conceived, developed, tried, tested perfected and then manifested by a man …. made by man.
A man just like you. He didn’t have two brains or 8 fingers on each hand so he could work harder or type faster. He was just like you.
These products didn’t invent themselves either, they didn’t just happen, they were somebody’s dream, their mission possible.
The man that made these things was no different to you.
He just had belief and the determination to see through to fruition the images he had created in his head.
Accept this idea
Once you accept this idea it’s very hard to un-accept it and it opens you up to the realisation that we all have it within us to develop and create any of the things we have today in our world, or in our world tomorrow.
Anything your mind can conceive your mind can achieve.
Now your goals and ambitions may not be as ambitious as to go into space, but even this is being achieved by men such as Richard Branson and Elon musk.
How? Through not recognising or accepting the traditional beliefs that hold most people back.
It’s this single understanding of realising the potential within. It haunts me every day to not achieve what I said I would and what I am capable of.
If I don’t achieve my mission possible it’s because I quit.
Mission Possible
There are very few principles that you need to learn and adhere to, in achieving your mission possible, and why wouldn’t you?
Why wouldn’t you strive to become better, live better, eat better earn better? Why will you accept third best for your life.
The first Principal and biggest thing that made my life turn around was this.
‘If I changed nothing in my life then how could I expect anything to be different tomorrow’.
Think about what you want changed in your life right now. A bigger house, more money or a new car, maybe a beautiful girlfriend.
Imagine waking up with the girl of your dreams in a penthouse overlooking the beach with a Lambo on the drive. This is all a reality if you are willing and committed to change, but be very sure of this-
“What you have now is a direct representation of what you have put in so far. If you have very little, it’s because you have put very little in.”
That’s a tough realisation for many to accept, but it’s true.
If your life, house, car and bank balance doesn’t measure up then it’s down to you and you alone.
It’s no good blaming someone or something else, that’s what most people do. Your parents, neighbour, girlfriend or your upbringing. Ultimately it was your choice. How you reacted to the circumstances that happened in your past up to this point in your life were all your choice. You are responsible for your choices.
You are response able.
For many, a lack of response was the problem. Maybe you just headed merrily through life, letting life happen to you. Not taking responsibility for your own decisions and your own direction in life. Life shaping your direction and results!
Remember, if you don’t steer the ship eventually it will run aground and probably sink.
Change.
Change does not happen over time! Change happens the instant that we embrace and commit to it.
Neither does it happen with a wish.
‘I wish I could stop smoking” or “I hope I can get a better paid job”.
These are wishes or hopes that are weak and have no commitment. We are all guilty of hoping and wanting change, but few are truly committed to change. But when you do truly commit to change it will alter the course of your life in an instant.
Putting Change into Action.
Try putting this change into action immediately and start to develop the habits which will change the pathways of your thinking, creating new patterns for your brain muscle memory to follow.
You will be amazed how simple but effective the principle of change is.
Try it on just one aspect of your life right now.
This is how I changed one of the bad habits that were holding me back.…
I knew that procrastination was my biggest fault holding me back. I was an expert at putting my shit off until tomorrow but tomorrow never came. When it finally did come the effort was half hearted and rushed as I had run out of time or still didn’t see the joy in what I was doing.
My whole life, I chose to take the quick or easy route and every time I justified it by saying I would do it later, and later would be ok. The pain I associated with putting it off, was less than from the pain of doing it so my brain rewarded me by not doing it.
The jobs did get done when deadlines loomed, but this was the world controlling my destiny not me controlling my own.
The problem becomes huge when you do this across your whole life. I never truly took the responsibility to do the small or big things that needed to be done there and then. I often let others make the decisions that where mine to take.
When these things you put off are big decisions, they can have huge impacts.
I truly believe that if I had put this into action sooner in my life, I may have saved my marriage.
For the first few years I just blamed my ex wife. Now I look at myself and accept some of the blame.
I now, wherever possible do every single little task as it needs doing or if I can’t do it immediately then it goes onto my wipe board as a job to do.
This list is reviewed at the start of everyday and at the end. Tasks are taken off and added as needed. Nothing can stay longer than 1 week. Big and small tasks alike are added and removed when done.
I also have a long-term goal board with a want list and a date by which it will be achieved.
The pleasure I now get as I wipe off the jobs and the goals, I have achieved is far more satisfying than putting it off ever was.
Also, the pain you experience in your mind in anticipation of doing the task is often far greater than the pain in the reality of doing.
Belief
Without belief you won’t achieve much long term.
You must first envisage what you want. Not what you don’t want.
If you think about what you don’t want, guess what, you will get it.
Think about the positive things you want in your life, and you will automatically move away from the negative
We are all programmed as human beings to make all our conscious and subconscious decisions as a response to one of two things …. either moving away from pain or towards pleasure.
Concentrate on the pleasure.
Then you must believe in your mind passionately and emphatically that you have it in your possession even before you have it physically.
Never Quit
You must never quit in your endeavour to achieve what you truly want. If at the first hurdle you turn around and give up, then you have quit.
Remember, problems are god’s gift to us to learn or as Thomas Eddison put it.
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time”.
Take another look at the obstacles you come across daily and put into action a plan to overcome them.
Many people blame their quitting on someone else but in doing this they are just passing the responsibility for their own actions onto someone else. It’s a self-justification mechanism kicking in and clearing our own subconsciousness of blame. We all do it but it’s a bad self-limiting habit and unless we take responsibility for our own failure, then we will never take control of our actions and ultimately our own destiny.
Action
Without action you can have read all the books in the world, and listened to all the downloads possible but until you put it into meaningful action you will achieve very little. Definitely nothing of substance or that lasts.
Don’t be scared to set off on this new journey.
It’s like learning to drive and then sitting in your car on your driveway but not going anywhere as you’re too scared to crash. You’ll be safe but you will never get to your destination and worse still not experience the journey along the way.
Action is what gets results.
Sure, there will be a few things happen along the way which will try to derail your new life and way of thinking. Not all your actions will bring immediate success, but keep moving forward becoming better, stronger, more focussed each day and the bumps in the road will become fewer and less of an obstacle.
Ignore the doubters and the people who have tried and failed and are happy to burden you with their failures.
Getting you to quit is their way of justifying that they quit.
You are different, you are responsible for your own life, own action and own thoughts not theirs. Quitting was their decision. Yours will be yours alone.
The word responsible is made up of two words.
Response and able.
As a conscious human being you have the choice to be able to respond as you choose, not let life or others respond for you.
‘The world does not respond to what I The world responds to who I become’.
Bigger better stronger.
